The 17 members of Compagnie HERVÉ KOUBI are experts in defying gravity. Under the direction of French Algerian choreographer Hervé Koubi, the dancers fuse classical dance, capoeira, hip-hop, and martial arts, and incorporate kinetic feats—high-flying leaps, dives, and spins—that leave their audiences in awe.

When Koubi’s latest work, Sol Invictus comes to the Center for the Arts on October 24, the performance will showcase the company’s thrilling athleticism and innovative artistry. It will also focus on dance’s power as a unifying force. Sol Invictus is about “summoning hope” Koubi said in a video produced by The Wallis earlier this year, a reminder of how individuals can come together in times of change and uncertainty and find meaning in a common purpose:
