The annual fall benefit ARTS by George!, which raises funds for College of Visual and Performing Arts scholarships, Mason Community Arts Academy, Green Machine Ensembles, and the Great Performances at Mason series, takes place on Saturday, October 3, and celebrates the energy, creativity, and imagination of Mason Arts in an evening filled with lively performances.
The gala opens at the deLaski Performing Arts Building with a buffet dinner and showcases by current and former George Mason students in multiple venues where guests can experience a wide variety of engaging works, including films, selections from the hit musical Urinetown, jazz, opera, and dance performances, and computer games. Later in the evening, George Mason alum Adelina Mitchell (BA Theater, ’19) will perform at the Center for the Arts Concert Hall with Professor Joe Walsh, piano. Mitchell, a 2023 Helen Hayes Award nominee for Outstanding Lead Performer for her role as Marian in the acclaimed bilingual (ASL) production of The Music Man, is currently touring with the Broadway National Tour of Wicked and serves as the Elphaba standby.
A special headliner concert by acclaimed actor and jazz pianist Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra will cap off the festivities with a repertoire of jazz classics and American Songbook favorites delivered with the ensemble’s signature charm and swing.
