This season, you’ll have the opportunity to see living legends live onstage at the Hylton Center! Consider building your subscription around these red-letter names. Broadway icon Bernadette Peters (9/19) showcases her unforgettable voice and stage presence accompanied by musicians from the American Festival Pops Orchestra. Among Peters’s Broadway credits are Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park with George, Annie Get Your Gun, Follies, and Gypsy. Witness kiddie rock royalty when you bring the family to the Laurie Berkner Band (2/13)Kids will love Laurie’s classic tunes like “Victor Vito,” “We are the Dinosaurs,” “I Know a Chicken,” and many more. Must-see all-male modern a cappella all-stars Straight No Chaser (4/18) boast a massive fanbase and impressive list of accomplishments, including 2 RIAA Gold Certified albums, more than 1.5 million concert tickets sold, more than 1 billion streams on Pandora, and more than 2 million albums sold worldwide. Their concerts are lighthearted and fun—but with serious singing! 

Jazzy Journeys
Add some syncopation to your subscription with performances from the coolest cats in town. The Maximilian Jacobs Trio (10/13) explores the intersection of jazz, classical music, and Balkan folk in its original compositions and reimagining of classic tunes. Five-time Grammy nominee Shemekia Copeland (11/7)—aka the new “Queen of the Blues”—lays down earth-shattering vocals with one of the most instantly recognizable and deeply soulful roots music voices of our time. The daughter of Texas blues great Johnny Copeland, she has earned nine Blues Music Awards and B.B. King Entertainer of the Year honors. And don’t miss audience favorite Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra (11/14) as they celebrate 25 years of making music in the lively multimedia concert To Swing Through the Sky—an exploration of the shared histories of jazz and flight.

Christmas in July
It might be fireworks season, but we’re dreaming of a different kind of twinkling lights. Get a jump on your holiday joy by securing tickets to your favorite festive performances today! Chanticleer (11/29), the “world’s reigning male chorus” (The New Yorker), inspires with a rich and diverse program of both early works and holiday classics, spanning traditional carols through gospel numbers. Audience favorite Seán Heely (12/6) returns with fiddle in hand to share the charm of a Celtic Yuletide. The American Festival Pops Orchestra continues its tradition of making spirits bright with their annual Holiday Pops: Songs of the Season (12/11) concert. And the much-awaited return of the Vienna Boys Choir (12/13) channels classic Christmas magic with all the gravitas of their centuries-old ensemble.

Razzle Dazzle
Magic and spectacle collide onstage to mesmerize and delight! Get ready to be astounded by performances that deliver the old razzle dazzle. Complexions Contemporary Ballet’s (10/4) program includes Star Dust, a transfixing tribute to the life and music of David Bowie. The awe-inspiring Ju Percussion Group (11/15) fuses Asian and Western cultures in their jubilant concert Energy ∞ Infinite. Your family will love the spectacle of Mutts Gone Nuts (11/21)—with daring dogs that will dance, prance, flip, and skip their way right into your heart! Cirque Éloize (1/30) blends high-energy circus arts with dynamic music and dance. Then, go on a mystical journey with Enchantment Theatre Company’s The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon (2/7), featuring life-size puppets, dance, magic, animation, and original music. Lastly, mirth, music, magic, and mayhem infuse The Acting Company’s enchanted production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2/20).

Catch these concerts, and you’ll be able to say you saw these incredible talents onstage before they hit it big! Experience a live taping of Mountain Stage Hosted by Kathy Mattea (10/18) and you’ll take in performances by rising talents alongside longtime legends in genres ranging from roots, folk, blues, and country to indie rock, synth pop, world music, alternative, and beyond. Likewise, the Virginia Opera presents A Taste of Opera (2/2), offering the unique opportunity to witness big musical talent in the intimate setting of the Jacquemin Family Foundation Hall as part of the Matinee Idylls series. Start with these two performances and catch a future star at the Hylton Center this season!

Celtic Pride 
The luck of the Irish is on your side with these lively Celtic offerings! Vocal ensemble Ars Populi (11/10) brings Celtic roots to the American experience in AMERICANA. Founded by All-Ireland Champion singer Kevin Elam, the concert celebrates America’s 250th birthday with a variety of distinctly American music. No Celtic holiday season would be complete without audience favorite Seán Heely (12/6) who returns with fiddle in hand to share the charm of a Celtic Yuletide. And Trinity Irish Dance Company (3/5) fuses traditional Irish step dance with contemporary movement and music for a high-octane, syncopated experience.
