In the summer of 2026, Arlington County will begin work on the final segment of the Wilson Boulevard Streetscape Improvement project to widen sidewalks and implement safety improvements near Mason Square

The project will take place on Wilson Boulevard between North Kenmore Street and 10th Street North, and on parts of 10th Street North between North Jackson Street and North Ivy Street. This work is expected to be completed in 2028.

Project goals

The project has three main focuses for this area:

  • Remove utility poles from sidewalks, bury and utilities below the road, and upgrade signals and streetlights
  • Widen sidewalks within the project limits to match improvements already completed west of North Kenmore Street
  • Remove the slip lane on Wilson Boulevard approaching 10th Street North to improve predictability and reduce confusion between drivers and pedestrians

What to expect during construction

During construction, lanes and sidewalks will narrow or close as construction activities require. The project team will work with the contractor to maintain and direct detours through the construction site and give advance notice of major traffic shifts. Follow the Arlington County project page to stay informed.

Project information town hall

The Arlington County project team will host an online town hall on Wednesday, June 3, from 6–7 p.m. to share more information about the project's context, goals, and what to expect during construction. Visit the town hall event page for information to join and to submit your questions in advance.
