The season opens with a dazzling evening featuring music and stories from Broadway icon Bernadette Peters (9/19). Celebrated for her multi-award-winning legendary career on stage and screen, Peters performs Broadway favorites and American standards with her signature charm, joined onstage by musicians from the American Festival Pops Orchestra. This highly anticipated performance marks Peters’s Hylton Center debut. Other standout artists making their Hylton Center debuts on the Hylton Presents series this season include: Complexions Contemporary Ballet in Star Dust (10/4), which includes a high-energy tribute to the music of David Bowie; Ju Percussion Group in Energy∞Infinite (11/15), fusing Eastern and Western music traditions in a dynamic program; circus arts with urban dance in Cirque Éloize’s ID-Evolution (1/30); The Acting Company’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2/20), an adaptation of Shakespeare’s most popular play; Ladysmith Black Mambazo (2/28), sharing their signature South African vocal harmonies; bold, contemporary Irish dance by Trinity Irish Dance Company (3/5); guitarist Sharon Isbin and Concerto Málaga (4/4), uniting virtuosic guitar and Spanish orchestral traditions; and male a cappella supergroup Straight No Chaser (4/18).
Some favorites are also returning to Merchant Hall, including a live taping of Mountain Stage Hosted by Kathy Mattea (10/18); the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra in To Swing Through the Sky (11/14), a one-of-a-kind, lively multimedia performance that explores the shared histories of two great American institutions, jazz and flight; Chanticleer’s A Chanticleer Christmas (11/29); a spirited fiddle ‘fest’ infused with holiday cheer in Seán Heely’s Celtic Christmas (12/6); the American Festival Pops Orchestra (12/11; 4/10); and the Vienna Boys Choir in Christmas in Vienna (12/13).
A special Hylton Center EXTRA! performance welcomes legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma to the stage with pianist Solon Gordon (4/2), delivering a rare and exhilarating chance to experience one of the world’s most celebrated artists up close in Merchant Hall’s intimate setting.
